UNIQUE PROCESSES

TEACHING AND LEARNING ROUTINE

week 1

STEP 1 – MAKING LEARNING VISIBLE First, we have to show it to students what exactly we are learning. Showing it to students will make it absolutely clear to them the nuances of what they are learning.
Monday – establishment of learning goals and criteria (The learning goal defines the scope of the topic we are about to learn, and success criteria help us visualize what being successful in this learning would look like)

Tuesday – modeling (The topic will be introduced and the teacher will show how to solve certain problems based on the current topic. The teacher will verbalize their thoughts and even show struggle by struggling to choose a final strategy but eventually will end up completing the task. With the help of success criteria, students will give feedback to teacher on two questions – what they did well? What they have done better?)

STEP 2 – LEARNING BY DOING Wednesday – group task The class will be divided into groups. One group will be guided in learning, it will need maximum support, another group will practice shared learning but the final group will practice independent learning. This group will need minimum support. At the end of a group task, children will give feedback to each other.

Thursday – group task Friday – group task Saturday – peer review and final assessment Children will decide which part of the whole learning experience reflects their learning and shall be included in their portfolio. The teacher will also interview them about the same.

week 2

Those who have not attained all success criteria will be given worksheets to follow up. Another assessment will take place on Saturday.

2nd process – Active citizenship Our first period will always be a self-regulation period. It will always start with every class along with their teachers cleaning their own classrooms. Some classes will visit other classes to give feedback on what was done well and what could have been done better.

For classes 1st and 2nd, children will come together to do yog and meditation exercises to have some degree of control over their mind and body. They will be taught the concept of roles, rules and responsibilities. They will be taught the simple process of problem-solving by listing out all the problems happening in their classrooms or school and will be asked to discuss their solutions.

From class 3rd onwards, during 1s period children will meet and list the problem they found in their communities and discuss its solutions every day.

From class 6th, children will choose the sectors they want to work in from three categories – life forms (nature conservation, animal husbandry, farming, animal shelter), materials and machines (robotics, welding, carpentry ) human services (media, seva Kandra for government-related schemes, tourism, healthcare, teaching, welfare organization).

Their 2-year project will include finding the most acute problem in their field and solving it for their community. It would also involve organizing seminars and workshops by utilizing the network of NGOs and self-help organizations for the welfare of community members.
